Yamagata Prefecture is a prefecture located in the Tohoku region of Japan. The prefectural capital is Yamagata City. The name of the prefecture, ``Yamagata,'' comes from the fact that the south side of present-day Yamagata City was called ``Yamakata Sato'' in the ``Japanese Ruijusho.''
